Natural History Glorious swarm of fairy inkcaps in Gunnersbury triangle 10 November 2021 Ian Alexander Swarm of Fairy Inkcap, Coprinellus disseminatus, on a tree-stump in the forest school area. Like all the Inkcaps, these little mushrooms start bonnet-shaped, widen out, darken, and then deliquesce into a blackish ink around the edges, so drops full of spores fall off in damp weather, scattering them around the forest. They always live on tree-stumps and can form wonderful swarms like this when there’s plenty of food!
